The Jacobs ESSCA Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) team is a high performing group executing challenging tasks to design and integrate GN&C systems for projects ranging from CubeSats to NASA’s Space Launch System. We are searching for highly qualified candidates with a background in control theory and/or structural dynamics to assist in the design and development of launch vehicle and spacecraft control systems.


To be successful in this position, the applicant must be detail oriented, work independently and collaboratively, possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, and have the ability to:


  • Support the design, integration, and analysis of GN&C systems through modeling, simulation, and analysis of vehicle dynamics.
  • Develop and/or use computer simulations to analyze highly coupled dynamic systems.
  • Utilize model reduction strategies to approximate high order dynamical systems.
  • Analyze and configure flex models for integration with software tools.
  • Work effectively in a multi-discipline team and provide technical guidance and insight.
  • Create, edit, and debug software written in C/C++, Matlab, and Simulink.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and briefings.
  • Create and review engineering and software documentation.




Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited university is required.  Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D. with a minimum 4 years of experience; Masters with at least 8 years of experience, or a BS with at least 10 years of experience.


Special consideration will be given to candidates that have the following additional experience:


  • Design, development, and definition of flight control systems.
  • Vehicle dynamics associated with slosh-flex coupling, dog-wags-tail and tail-wags-dog effects, sensor placement, filter design, pogo, aerodynamics, actuators, control systems, etc.
  • Finite element modeling and analysis, grid generation, meshing techniques.
  • Vibration and modal analysis of aerospace vehicles.
  • Analysis of fluid/structure dynamic coupling and launch vehicle actuation systems.


Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
