Responsibilities:

 

This position is for a Liquid Engine Systems/RL10 Engineer who will work in a highly integrated team performing system engineering-related activities to enable the design, test, and operation of the Space Launch System and more specifically, the Exploration Upper Stage (EUS).

 


Primary duties for the Liquid Engine Systems/RL10 Engineer will include:

- Attend technical interchange, project planning, design review and other appropriate meetings to maintain a current knowledge base of design, requirements, issues, action items, and resolution activities. Identify issues, pursue resolutions, and provide supporting analyses. Complete assigned action items. Review requirements and implement risk management processes.
- Work within Integrated Product Teams to identify and resolve technical and systems integration issues.
- Work closely with the Liquid Engine Office and Engineering Directorate to provide systems and RL10 expertise to resolve technical, integration and programmatic issues.
- Review, implement and comply with Interface Control Documents to integrate engine with SLS upper stage.
- Identify systems level engine/vehicle integration issues and work across disciplines to propose solutions.
- Provide insight and evaluation to milestone review planning, document reviews, and Review Item Discrepancy disposition at the Program and Element level.
- Document and deliver results with recommendations.
- Other duties related to liquid rocket engine analyses and systems engineering as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

Experience with an emphasis in liquid engine system design, analysis, engine integration or development/verification testing is highly desired.  Degree in Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited university is required. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D. with a minimum of 8 years of experience, a Masters with at least 10 years of experience, or a BS with at least 12 years of experience.

 


- Familiarity with and experience in systems engineering processes and applications. Experience with NASA systems engineering processes and terminology is a plus.
- Integration experience at the vehicle or stage level to include technical and systems engineering activities is desired. Especially, interface integration with engine system or launch/test facility.
- Exhibited capability to plan and perform systems engineering and analysis tasks independently and as a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Power-Point, Excel, and Word is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Experience with liquid rocket engine, and RL10 in particular, development, test, manufacturing or operation and integration is highly desirable and will be a very strong plus.
- Must be comfortable working across organizational boundaries to identify and resolve engine/vehicle integration issues.
- Experience working in a fast-paced engineering environment with rapidly changing priorities, schedules and issues.
