Metrology Engineering Technician II - ERC (510)


Description of Duties:


  • Works in the Climatic Test Division of Redstone Test Center.

  • Conducts a variety of tests using established test methods and procedures.

  • Performs routine tasks ranging from simple to medium in complexity while using detailed standard operating procedures.

  • Modifies, assembles, and installs: test equipment, parts, and mechanical test fixtures.

  • Calculates, center of gravity and moments of inertia.

  • Provides general testing and engineering technician support.

  • Interacts with senior technicians, government engineers, and customers.

  • Participates periodically in cross functional training activities within various test laboratories.

  • Extracts engineering data from various sources then processes and presents the data in the required format.

  • Job orientation and training will be provided.

  • This position may require shift work.




  • Must be US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain SECRET clearance.

    • Current SECRET clearance is desired.

  • Must have the ability to follow detailed SOPs and TSRA procedures while performing Metrology operations.

    • Current knowledge of SOPs and TSRA is preferred but not required.

  • Must be able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Must be able to prepare, record, and present informal test reports.

  • Must have the ability to analyze and interpret data.

  • Must be capable of taking and passing the “Explosive Level II Certification”.

    • Current AMMO certification is desired.

  • Must be capable and willing to work in a Hazardous Environment.

  • Must be a motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic who can lift up to 50lbs.

  • Must be well organized, able to work well with others, and be on time for work.

  • Must be able to work needed/required:

    • With little prior notice

    • Overtime

  • A strong background in mathematics is desired.
  • Must be able to independently use subjective judgment to complete tasks.

  • Must be able to understand basic engineering terminology and the explosive handling process.

  • Must be able to drive a forklift.




  • 2-4 years of experience in Metrology operations on missile systems.

    • Dimensional inspections and tolerances desired.

    • Operating and writing CMM programs desired.

  • High School Education or Equivalent, Associates Degree in a Technical field preferred.

    • Associates Degree may substitute 2yrs of experience.

    • Military experience may substitute years of experience.
