Senior Engineer, Preliminary Propulsion System Design - Miss (JC107584914)

Overview

This position supports Aerojet Rocketdyne’s Mission Architecture group in Huntsville AL. Under limited general direction, the Senior Engineer generates advanced designs, conducts performance analyses, leads peer reviews, plans and coordinates fabrication and testing for advanced liquid and solid rocket propulsion concepts. Provides imaginative, thorough and practical solutions to a wide range of technical problems. Works within integrated product teams to formulate strategies and conduct necessary studies and trades in support of proposal activities and advanced product development. Supports product development risk mitigation planning along with associated testing requirements.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

75% – Identifies, evaluates, and provides creative and practical solutions to a wide range of liquid and solid propulsion problems requiring the use of conventional engineering design and analysis methods and tools. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation of company processes and procedures. Works on assignments requiring familiarity with liquid and solid propulsion systems and in-depth knowledge of principles and practices within the rocket propulsion development community. Conducts advanced preliminary system design and leads engineering teams to analyze and mature preferred design configurations.Performs integrated trajectory/vehicle/propulsion analysis and design optimization for a wide range of missile and launch vehicle applications.Conceives and plans projects involving the development of existing and new programs that address technical objectives. Leads the planning and conduct of system studies, design requirements, development testing, and design reviews. Defines systems requirements and determines applicable validation methods for compliance and verification. Participates in technical proposals describing design approach, relevant heritage, risk assessment and mitigation planning, and rationale with estimated cost and schedule.

25% – Prepares and delivers results in oral presentations and/or written documents. Provides mentoring and guidance to less experienced engineers. Support engineering improvement initiatives such as tool enhancements and standard work procedures.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical and/or Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering or other appropriate discipline/science with five (5) or more years of directly related technical experience in tactical propulsion design engineering disciplines or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Expertise in development of liquid and solid rocket systems is strongly desirable. Working knowledge of CAD tools (UG or Pro-E), as well as programming tools (Fortran, Python, Matlab, C, Visual Basic, Excel, etc.), systems tools POST is desirable.

US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
