General Summary:

COLSA Corporation provides software engineering services to the Marshall Space Flight Center in support of NASA’s International Space Station and Space Launch System Programs. We are seeking an experienced software engineer to design, develop, and maintain software used for telemetry, command, and mission planning system applications.


  • Participate in concept development and develop prototypes.
  • Develop and document software requirements. Developing requirements will entail reviewing and understanding higher level specs and interfacing with stakeholders.
  • Develop and document software designs and present them at design reviews.
  • Develop software code to implement the design and meet requirements.
  • Integrate the software into applications.
  • Unit and integration test the developed software, and resolve identified defects and issues.
  • Develop user documentation.
  • Respond to defects identified by formal test.
  • Participate is user evaluations of software in development and evaluate and respond to feedback.
  • Participate in project status meetings and provide status.
  • Perform sustainment on existing applications, correcting defects, adding features, and resolving code security vulnerabilities.
Required Experience

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, business, or other related field or equivalent experience (8 years of related experience may be substituted for degree)

* Minimum of three years applicable software design engineering experience (total of 11 years of related experience required if no degree)

* Ability to use desktop applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs

* Working knowledge of current operating systems and programming languages

* Must be able to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance

* Due to the nature of work we perform for the US Government, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

Good analytical and creative problem solving skills for design, creation and testing of software

  • Experience working on a large distributed system
  • Experience with .NET, C#, Visual Studio and Windows programming
  • Experience with C/C++ and Linux programming
  • Experience with client-server applications, windows development and large system support
  • Experience with SQL and a relational database
  • Experience with a Software Configuration Management (SWCM) tool, ClearCase preferred
  • Working knowledge of web based applications involving HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Experience working in an agile environment (e.g., scrum, Kanban)
