Responsibilities:

 

The Thermal Protection System (TPS) Process and Test Engineer will support the Non­Metallic Materials Branch at MSFC in developing and qualifying cryogenic TPS materials. Primary duties will include test planning generation and test coordination within the Non­Metallic Materials Branch for qualification effort at MSFC. The engineer will coordinate the test plans through the TPS facility, the Materials Test Branch and internal and external organizations to facilitate continued testing and production of test hardware for the qualification effort.

 

Qualifications:

 

A BS degree in Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited institution is required.  Typically, educational and experience requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D., with a minimum 10 years of experience, Masters with at least 12 years of experience, or BS with at least 15 years of experience.  This position requires 10 years of materials development, qualification, and certification experience. Experience with the design, development, manufacture and testing of non­metallic materials is also required. Direct experience with cryogenic TPS materials is a plus. Experience with NASA qualification methodologies is preferred. The candidate should be experienced with developing and executing detailed work/test instructions and be able to facilitate equipment trouble shooting by developing procedures and documenting findings. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively interface with customers, technicians and management. The ability to develop technical papers/presentations and deliver to potential lab customers and at conferences is preferred.
