Industry Insight Day- Industry on Speed Dial Event

12 Industry Tables with educators moving around the room every 13 minutes! Industry Insight Days took a unique turn on September 13 when more than 80 Educators, Industry Leaders, & HR Reps gathered at the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber for the first Industry on Speed Dial event. It was a great success!

The day started with a phenomenal presentation by Kristin Scroggin, GenWHY Communications, where she talked about “Generation ‘THEM’, Managing a Multi-Generational Workforce”, followed by 3 separate panel discussions led by Chamber Foundation Board Members. This was a great way for Educators from across North Alabama to meet face-to-face with our Board Members! Educators represented counties: Lawrence, Limestone, Morgan, Madison, Jackson, Winston, Franklin, and Lauderdale, plus organizations: Village of Promise, STEAM Works, Boys & Girls Club, and colleges: Calhoun and Drake.

After lunch, the group proceeded to the “speed-dating”, roundtable format where a clock was set every 13 minutes and educators moved from one table to the next, meeting industry reps and exchanging information about workforce needs, challenges, and how to better prepare students—the up-and-coming workforce. The day provided Educators with fantastic information for bringing back to their students & colleagues while also facilitating stronger communication between Educators & company leaders representing a wide variety of industries: Regions Bank, Boeing, ADTRAN, PPG Aerospace, BBVA Bank, Davidson Technologies, The Schools Foundation, Hudson Alpha, Turner Construction, Phoenix, Huntsville Hospital, Booz Allen Hamilton, Mazda-Toyota, ProjectXYZ, and AT&T Sales. We want to thank everyone who participated and for the impactful conversations we hope will continue from this day!

“More people, I mean it really comes down to more people. We’ve got the people in the surrounding counties, we’ve got the people who are interested in moving here. Now it’s a matter with your help and the media’s help to let them know the companies are coming, obviously Mazda-Toyota is a huge buzzword right now. People are hearing that 4,000 number right now and it’s very true. There will be 1,000 overhead and 3,000 on the assembly line. These are great jobs the word is out and people are positioning themselves, could I commute for 45 minutes? Could I move to Huntsville Madison County? Could I move to Lawrence County? They’re thinking about doing that with their families and that’s great. We say come on, get here. We’ve got the jobs for you.”

North Alabama really is booming! Watch the full video below.
